Single Interface to the Field (SIF)
Up to the minute information is critical for soldiers on the battlefield and those supporting them. The Army needed an integrated and synchronized enterprise solution to ensure that soldiers and support personnel had access to critical information and resources at a moment's notice.
In the past, the Army used various support structures that were not synchronized. For example, IT project managers would use their own help desks, tools and process to assist field support and problem resolution. Knowing where to go for help was yet another challenge for soldiers and support personnel because of the disparate systems.
Symbolic Systems partnered with the Army to develop a web-based solution that provides soldiers with 24 hour a day/7 day a week support for any system managed by the Army.
The web-portal solution includes a support operations center that guides the user to the assistance they need, it also links them to mission-essential information such as fielding, training, personnel management, incident reporting/management, asset management, change management and additional resources.
Symbolic provided project management services, as well as architectural and technical development of the web portal ensuring that the project adhered to the Department of the Army standards.
In 2009, the SIF team won the Army Knowledge Management Award in the process category for Single Interface to the Field (SIF) as well as in the technology category for milWiki. The Army Knowledge Awards Program recognizes outstanding initiatives that support enterprise solutions which improve situational awareness and decision-making.
